NOTE: The after-school program has been CANCELLED for fall 2003. The program was cancelled for reasons of low enrollment and a temporary need to focus attention on our director search. A committee of concerned parents and staff will meet this fall to discuss the future of the school
age club. If you would like to participate or express a view on this matter, please
send an email to director@uadc.org or
make your opinion known to a member of the governing board.
Overview
The after-school program offers a range of enriching activities for
children from Kindergarten to age 12, including
outside time for physical play, science and art projects, games, and
quiet activities like reading.
UADC is located close to the places parents work and study;
downtown, near the UW and VA hospitals, and the UW-Madison campus.
The after-school program includes both indoor and outdoor play.
Age-appropriate activities are planned for each day. The small teacher/child ratio of 1:12 means individual attention. A
nutritious snack is provided each day. When Madison Schools
are closed for inservice days, full-day care is offered. UADC also has
a full-day summer program for school age children.
Very reasonably priced; UADC accepts City of Madison, Dane County
and UW-Madison Child Care Tuition Assistance Program funding. Discounts
are available for families with more than one child enrolled in a
UADC program. Partial scholarships are available based on need.
An added advantage for Franklin-Randall students is the
convenient location. Staff from UADC ensure safe arrival. A short
walk from Randall; on white dot bus route from Franklin. Click
here for more information. Interested parents are encouraged
to stop by and visit the program.
A Typical Day in the School Age Club
- End of school day: Franklin School children ride the white dot bus to the
center where they are met by a teacher. Randall parents may contact the director
to schedule a pick-up time when a teacher will meet their child after school and walk to the center.
- Snack: Fruit and peanut butter, cheese and crackers, or
granola bars with milk or juice.
- Activity or project: Our discovery-learning concept involves
teaming with the UW-Madison and other community resources to offer age-appropriate
exposure to science and the arts. About once a week, a video is offered.
- Free choice: Board games, art, reading, or homework. Many children enjoy the computers which offer over
30 fun and educational games.
- Outside time: Each day the children have outside play time, weather permitting. On days with inclement weather,
children get their exercise in the indoor running room.
- Parent pick-up: Any time until 5:30 p.m.
The UADC philosophy is a "whole child" philosophy. All of the above
activities help enhance our children's cardiovascular, cognitive, emotional,
and interpersonal growth.
