Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is your summer programming philosophy?

A. We believe summer is a time for children to play, have fun, meet new friends, visit new places and enjoy themselves. We also believe that fun and learning can and do go hand-in-hand. Children may keep a journal of their summer experiences, explore science through hands-on projects and plan a carnival for the younger kids while having lots of time for outdoor play and field trips. By means of a well-designed and diverse set of summer activities, the School Age Summer Camp combines fun and enriching experiences with opportunities to maintain and enhance academic skills.

Q. What is the ratio of teachers to school age participants?

A. Our program has one teacher for ever 12 school age students. We believe low ratios help ensure that each child is getting the proper support and supervision. Trained teaching assistance from local colleges and universities assist full time teachers to keep our ratios consistent.

Q. Who teaches the swim lessons?

A. Swimming lessons are offered in conjunction with the Madison School Community Recreation (MSCR), American Red Cross "Learn to Swim" program. Our kids walk to the pool at West High School where they meet their instructors. Swimming instruction is given by certified American Red Cross Water Safety Instructors and certified American Red Cross Lifeguards. Younger camp participants (5-7) receive instruction separately from the older (8-12) members.

Q. How will children travel on field trips?

A. Because of our central location, there are many great things to see and do within walking distance of UADC. We also use public transportation or buses for longer trips. We will provide notice for longer trips, so you can plan your schedules if needed.

Q. Can parents come along?

A. Parents are welcomed at UADC at anytime. We also welcome parent support on longer field trips!

Q. What if we need to change our schedule during the summer?

A. Our director will work with you to design a schedule that works for your family throughout the summer (space permitting).
